The manuscript evaluation is a constructive and comprehensive written report that addresses the text’s strengths and weaknesses in both general and specific terms, relating to content, technical ability, and writing style. The author is also encouraged to submit up to three direct questions about the manuscript. Based on this overview, and on the answers to their questions, many writers are able to pinpoint weak areas, make necessary revisions, and bring the manuscript to submission level.
Writers struggling with less advanced projects often report that they learn a great deal about writing in general, as well as about their own strengths and weaknesses, and that the specific advice allows them to bring the text up several notches. Whenever practical, we then work on an hourly basis to help these writers hone their craft and bring their writing to a level where it is more likely to gain the notice of an agent or publisher.
